Kerilyn Schewel is Lecturing Fellow at Duke University. Her research examines how the social changes associated with human and economic development impact migration aspirations and behavior. She has carried out extensive fieldwork in Ethiopia and published on themes related to migration theory, immobility, education and gender. Her work has appeared in International Migration Review, Population and Development Review, Social Forces, and Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies.
She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam, an MSc in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia. She has held research positions at Addis Ababa University, Princeton University, and the University of Amsterdam, where she managed the Migration as Development project.
